Jackie seems to be doing a little better. They xrayed and discovered he has abreak in his pelvis but there's noyhing they can do about that. His infection seems better. He slept last night and has walked quite a bit today. Mary Ann's uncle died and she went to the funeral gome briefly and ho.e briefly. But she has been at the hospital almost atound the clock. I know she must be getting tire but we're just not a family that leaves anyone alone in the hospital. Maybe they'll do the sleep apnea test on monday.

Jackie is still in room 721. Thet think maybe he has sleep apnea and are trying to figure it all out. They say the heart and hip are both good. I'm afraid Mary Ann is going to get worn out. She says she's fine but I'm worried about her.

Rehab

Jackie is feeling a little better today. He will probably go to 8th floor, to rehab, tomorrow.

J is feeling better tonight. They've put an iv back in. We will see what the morning brings.

Monday, October 22, 2007

Jackie is not feeling very well today. They started him on an antibiotic today, but he feels pretty rough. We're hoping this is just a little bump in the road and that by tomorrow, with a day's worth of antibiotics in his system, he'll feel better. He hasn't felt much like eating today. Obviously, he's in the hospital for another day or two.

Rehab

The heart surgeon says Jackie is doing fine. They took the pacer wires out today and he will get the chest incision staples out on Monday. Dr. O'Rourke left it up to the primary care doc whether or not to send him home.

Dr. Grumley decided some rehab would be a good idea, and we all agree - particularly Jackie, who thinks it would be too much for Mary Ann to manage at home just yet. Dr. Grumley also thinks Jackie has a little bladder infection so he's going to give him a round of antibiotics for that.

Mary Ann is opting for rehab in Paducah, barring unforeseen events. We're not sure when he will go there or the details yet, but we'll keep you updated here.

Jackie's temperature was back to normal later in the day. He has been pretty tired today but did get a good night's rest.
J is running a little fever. Don't know why yet.
Jackie is doing great. He had a good night. Both he and Mary Ann got to sleep. She has a cot in the room now so she can stay with him. He has already been up walking today. He ate almost all of his breakfast. All in all it's good. Things are certainly better than they were one week ago or even two weeks ago. I'm on my way home but just talked to them a little bit ago. I'll keep this updated.

Jackie is doing well. He's no longer on oxygen and only has the portable heart monitor. He seems to be much more himself. He has walked three times today and has been in the chair a lot. He's doing great. We really appreciate everyone's prayers, visits, cards, goodies and well wishes.
Jackie is doing well. He just got up and walked a little before dinner. It occurred to us today that he is probably going to need a wheelchair and ramp to get into the house initially. We hadn't thought about that until today but there are steps into the house from every direction.

He's doing well. They took the bandage off his chest this morning. All looks good.

Jackie is doing OK. He had a restless night and has some pain in his tailbone. They're giving him a little pain medication for that and they're coming in soon to walk him a bit. But, he ate really well at breakfast and is doing OK. Obviously, compared to a week ago, things are great.

Jackie is in Room 721 - a very spacious room at the end of the hall. He is disconnected from all the various things except oxygen and his portable heart monitor. He doesn't have any IVs anymore. They tell us he will probably get to come home on Monday or Tuesday.

His color looks really good and he ate really well tonight at dinner. I think he's starting to feel more himself.

He's happily receiving visitors so feel free to drop by if you're near Lourdes. I think he's happy to see new faces.

I'm headed back to Kansas on Sunday, but I will try to continue updates. Whenever I check in by phone, I'll update this site if at all possible.

Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Jackie has been moved. He's in room 721.
Jackie is still doing fine. They say they're still looking for a room for him, and he'll be the first one to go if one becomes available, but so far he's still in ICU. The nurse last night did tell Mary Ann that sometimes patients are in ICU until they go home. We'll keep this site updated as we learn more.
Jackie is doing fine. He's still in ICU because they don't have a room available but he's doing well. I'm at home this morning doing some things around the house for Mary Ann. Janice spent the night at the hospital and she and Mary Ann are there now. I'm going to stay at the hospital tonight and then I'll head home on Sunday. They say Jackie will probably come home on Monday.

Jackie is still doing well. He's in ICU for the night and will be until they get a room free in Progressive Care on 7th Floor. They took the staples out of his hip tonight - that was planned for tomorrow but Dr. Patel was in tonight and said they looked really good so he just went ahead and took them out. They also took the shunt out of his neck where they were putting in meds so he can move his head more freely now. They also took the catheter out tonight.

So, that's the scoop for the moment. We'll keep you updated. Thanks for your continued prayers.
They still don't have a room for Jackie so he's still in ICU. We'll keep you updated.
They're visiting now. We cut our visit short because they're going to get him up to walk. He's doing good. We're just waiting for them to get a room open for him. All is well.
Jackie is doing fine. They're waiting on a room to move him into. I'll post the room number as soon as we know it.
Everything is good. Jackie asked the heart surgeon what exactly they did and he put his glasses on right away when we took them in, both of which tell me he's more interested in the world around him than he has been. The doc said his xray looked better today than yesterday that he's improving every day. His heart rate is good. He was joking with us again today lie yesterday morning about he didn't know how many more holes he needed because they keep drawing blood. They will move him out to a regular room today. As we were leaving one of the sisters brought in some electronic get well wishes sent through the Lourdes system.

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

Jackie's heart rate has converted and his numbers are good again. They're giving his some percoset for pain so he was pretty tired tonight. But he's doing well. He slept well last night so we're hoping he will again tonight.
Bobby tells me that Jackie's heart rate is doing better. They will probably send him out to a regular room tomorrow. We get to visit again at 9 and I'll report again then. Thanks.
Jackie is doing OK. He's tired and his heart rate is still irregular. His blood pressure dropped from the meds they are giving for the irregular heart rate. But it came back up. They're not overly concerned about any of this but we, of course, want everything to go back to perfectly normal. He's tired.
Jackie is doing well. He has developed atrial fibrullation (sp?) which is an irregular heartbeat. They say it's not uncommon after heart surgery. They're giving him some medication for it and expect it to convert his heart back to a normal rhythm. I have that as does Jim and our Mom was also was on medication for rhythm too. Jackie doesn't even feel it so it's even possible he has had this before and didn't know it. But they say there's no reason to think this med won't work. They will keep him in ICU another day.

He says his chest hurts less now than it did this morning. He was in a chair when we went back at 9. He said moving around had helped his chest.

Bob Griffin was here and he went back with me. Jackie likes to see different people so that was good. He's getting a little bored with us. I also took him the emails and comments people had sent and read those to him. If you want to send one scroll down a couple of entries and there are links to do that.

Please continue to pray. Thanks.

Good Morning

Jackie is doing really well. He's more alert this morning - I guess the drugs from surgery have worn off. He says his chest incision is starting to hurt and that his neck and shoulders are sore. Of course, it would be normal to be in some pain after something this major. But, he is doing fine.

It was L. Jackie and me that were visiting at 6 this morning and when B. Jackie mentioned he was sore I said, "Well, Big Brother, you'll get better every day."
He held up his hand like he was firing a gun and said, "Bang. I'm gonna start shooting everybody that says that."
L. Jackie said, "Well, do you think you're gonna get worse?"
"I sure hope not," was B. Jackie's response to that.

As you can tell from this exchange, he's feeling more himself.

They said they will probably move him out to a room either today or tomorrow.

Mary Ann went home last night, after staying for two nights in a row. We're encouraging her to get some rest. She asked Jackie if it would be OK if I stayed and he said yes. This morning he was telling me I should go home, too. I told him that was not happening - that someone would be here.

In ICU they have our cell numbers on the board in his room so we can move around the hospital a little bit and not worry about them not finding us if they need/want us.

I think that's all the news that is news on the Jackie front so far today, and I'm thrilled it's good news.

Jackie is doing well. He's looking really good. His color is great. He's talking and joking with us. All is good. It has been wonderful to have the support of so many at this time. Thank you. Mary Ann is going home tonight and I'm staying at the hospital so hopefully she will get some rest. They will probably move jackie either late tomorrow or the next day. Rooms are in short supply and we'd just as soon he stay here if possible. He's OK with that too. We'll see what happens. Thank you for your continued prayers.

Get Well Wishes

We just went in to see Jackie and he's doing well. He's sitting up in the chair and eating turkey, dressing and green peas. He's talking and joking with us so all seems well.

You can send him an e-card through the Lourdes system by going to: http://www.ehealthconnection.com/regions/lourdes/content/card_form.asp

I've also set up an email account where you can send well wishes. I'll check it periodically and give him the email there. It's jackieleeterrell@gmail.com.

Or, of course, you can leave comments here on any of the posts.

Thanks for your concern and continued prayer.

Jackie is doing fine. He's tired but doing OK. They gave him some medication they always give after a valve replacement that cause blood pressure to drop so they're messing with that, but he's doing ok. He still looks good.

Jackie is doing GREAT. He is waking up. He knows all of us and is communicating with hand signals. As soon as he is awake a little more they will take the vent tube out and have him sit up in the chair and give him a bath. This will be the last update tonight I think. He seems pretty comfortable. He's not fighting the tube and is not restrained at all. It's nothing but good news.
Visiting Hours in ICU are for 30 min beginning at

6 am
9 am
1 pm
5 pm
9 pm

Jackie is still asleep. They say they'll come get us when he wakes up this evening. They said they may take the vent tube out yet tonight and we're hoping they do because he really hates that.

We just saw Jackie. He looks good. He's starting to open his eyes but is still asleep. His vitals are good. All looks good.
We've been back to see Jackie and he looks great. His color is good. Everyone has been telling us to prepare ourselves for how bad he would look but he's not really swollen even. They said he's doing good.
The surgeon has been in. They had to replace the valve because it was ruptured but were able to use a valve from cow's pericardial sack so he won't have to be on blood thinner. He had about 2 litres of fluid around his heart and lungs. They could see the damage from the heart attack but there's lot of living tissue around it which is good.Things went well. They are closing him up now.
J is off bypass and vitals are good. Dr. O'Rourke will be out to give us details in 30 to 45 minutes. Then it will be another 90 min before we can see him.
We are still waiting for more info. Ill update as soon as we knoww something.
Jackie is on bypass. All is going well. It will be about two hours on it. They will call again when he's off.
They have started surgery. They'll call back when they're on bypass.
We are still waiting for word. They told us it takes a while before they get started. We're all anxious to hear of course. There are 12 of us here. Bob griffin was here earlier too.
They tell us it will be about 7-30 before they get J into surgery. They are in anestheia now.
They are talking to Jackie now in anesthesia and will star new lines. It will be about 45 min to an hour before they make the first incision. They will let us know when that happens.
They just took Jackie into surgery. He's very calm this morning.

Test from phone

Testing posting from phone. Posts are likely to be brief and may include typos so please forgive that. Thanks.

Tomorrow

Jackie will be taken downstairs about 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. It will be about 6:45 when they begin the surgery. However, the first step will be to look at the valve with a small camera, to determine if they can repair his or if they need to replace it. And, if they need to replace it, what kind to use. This will be done before they open him up. He is expected to be out of surgery around noon.

He is doing OK today, although he is anxiousabout tomorrow. But, medically, he is doing well. He has slept most of the day due to a variety of medications. Only family has visited him today. He is worried about tomorrow, as anyone would be.

We are optimistic everything will be fine, but your prayers are appreciated. Thank You.

Jackie

Thank you for checking in here. I will be updating this site each and every time we have any information about Jackie's condition. You can see the time on each posting so you can track things. I will be posting from my phone at the hospital so updates will likely be brief and may include some typos. Thanks for understanding. And thank you for your concern and your prayers.
